Today our crew started to prepare some more starters material from our fields.
Acer palmatum very thick trunks, good neabari, approx 60cm high, 16 years old.
Ginkgo biloba female trees, very rare variety not easy to find, nice trunc movement & ramifications. Dwarf variety about 16 years old.
Camelia japonica with trunc movement, approx 50cm, 14 years old.
The Juniperus posted earlier is now wired and branches are again in position. I choose to use aluminium wire because this is going to give me a better fixation. For every branch, big or small, I used 1 size more than necessary so the wire can stay on longer. Next growing season I expect a lot of inside growth because now the light can enter inside the tree.

Five different types of Juniperus amonst them also chinesis & Itoigawa for sho hin, four different types of Pinus, Cryptomeria, Taxus, some Cedrus, etc…
Today I checked the leaf and branch quality of one of my Bunjin Junipers. This is a japanese yamadori tree that is already a very long time in a pot. Last wiring was about 4 years ago. He is now 3 years without wire and without intensively training. The reason was that I wanted to let my branches “stand on their own” (without the help of wire).
To check the branch quality I had to use the same technique of cleaning out older and unnecessary young branches. This is one possible front side.
This is another possible front side. About the branch quality; the tree is nearly there were I want him to be but still can be improved. So I decide to give him also a new complete wiring
These Styrax were seven years in cultivation and now two years in pot. Last year we did a drastic pre pruning to remove all unnecessary branches and last summer they made a lot of new branches. Now we did a last selection pruning before wiring. They all have a nice trunk movement and are cultivated for sho hin bonsai. On the picture you can see two after pruning and one after wiring. For the next coming summer we are going to maintain them as a bonsai. All trees will be wired by tomorrow and on the sales benches. Styrax japonica is not easy to find in sho hin size.
